  • In February 2013, I told my husband that I wanted to go natural and do “The Big Chop”. He had no idea what that was. I explained it to him and he said, “just don’t come home with the same haircut as me”. When I walked in the door he was sort of in shock at how low it was, but he eventually adjusted and he loves my hair now.

I went through many phases not sure what to do with my hair. It grew so quickly and I didn’t know how to style my hair. I watched YouTube and tried to study what to do. I went natural because it was the thing to do (embrace my beauty). However, in March of 2015, I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. It is unknown how one get this so I was at a loss because I didn’t smoke, was a social drinker and I didn’t have a family history of this.

I started learning that Parabens and Formaldehyde were in certain products and how they are linked to cancer. A lot of our hair products have these ingredients in them. Some maybe listed by their INI name so you still don’t really know what you are using. I decided that I was going to take control of this part of my life and share it with others. I felt that I needed to protect myself. I wondered how many other women were in the same boat as I was (not sure of what products to use and not sure of the ingredients in the product). There was just so much out there with no focus. I love my natural hair, but I felt challenged at times. Natural hair is beautiful and should not be difficult, it should be FUN!!!
